Advisor of Academics
I endeavor to form relationships with my advisees, and we discuss more than just mapping schedules. My relationship-based approach to advising is evidenced by the fact that several of my former advisees still stop by my office from time to time for advice or just to chat.
I have found academic advising to be extremely valuable and rewarding as students appreciate having one-on-one time with someone who will offer advice and sometimes just listen to them.
Although there is not an English major offered at Indiana Tech, I have previously advised students in almost every major, including many students in criminal justice and psychology.
The advising role is one I take seriously and one I thoroughly enjoy. Getting to know my advisees and helping them choose their right paths is an opportunity in which I take great pleasure and pride.
Advisor of Student Organizations
I enjoy advising, both in my role as academic advisor and advisor of student organizations. I currently am an advisor for the Book Club, an organization for students who enjoy reading, the Gay-Straight Alliance [GSA], which offers a safe space for LGBT+ students on campus, and the Society for Women Engineers [SWE]. In the past I have advised the Delta Alpha Nu sorority and the Alpha Chi honor society.
